Jews still suck the blood from a newly circumcised penis

Just when you thought the Catholic church was full of pedophiles.

Metzitzah B'peh is a ritual where after the circumsision the mohel (The person who preforms the circumcision) literally sucks this blood left from the surgical proceedure directly off of the infant boys penis.  The Mohel uses his mouth for this act of cleansing.  Many people see this as far beyond pedophilia but the practice still continues today.  While some Jewish people say that because it doesn't have a sexual implication it is not pedophilia I disagree.  I also find the practice unsanitary.  Babies have very little immune system and the human mouth contain up to 1000 different types of bacteria.

I think it's time we let go of these silly primitive beliefs and move into the 21st century.

Poor Jesus

I wonder if someone put some antiseptic on Jesus's nail wounds. Those things can get a nasty infection.

Secondhand Religion

Two days ago Pennsylvania legislation was proposed which would ban smoking in all buildings, including those that are currently exempt.  I read the news and was happily suppressed.  I have to inform you but I am a nonsmoker and have had to avoid some of my old haunts because they were exempt from the laws.  Entering these buildings meant I would be subject to the effects of second hand smoke and my clothes would reek of the foul smell of cigarettes.  This proposed ban made me think that maybe we should look at other forms of pollution.

Also, two days ago, a student at Pickens County School District ripped up his pre-approved speech and recited the Lord’s Prayer.  I read this news online and was shocked to see that in the comments section some atheists and agnostics actually said they liked the fact that the student stood up for his beliefs.  I am hoping that these were faked by christian's trying to make it look like this rogue student was doing a good thing.

The truth is that it was just another case of secondhand religion rearing its ugly head.  This students blatant disregard for people who are not christian is appalling but isn't far from what all non christians have endured at many secular events around this country.  School board meetings and even our congress starts each and every session with a prayer.  When challenged, christian leaders cite freedom of speech.

This freedom allows people to pray anywhere they want.  But a moment of deliberately lead prayer forces all in attendance to have to watch this ritualistic act.  Sitting through it quietly further encourages this behavior.  Speaking out makes the complainant look like some kind of villain in the eyes of the majority, thus making it infinitely harder to be the squeaky wheel.

I don't mind if people pray quietly at a restaurant prior to their meal a practice most christians don't do. A student may likewise pray before a test.  But to make us all unwilling participants in some public forum is wrong.

I do not applaud this students act.  I believe the student should be punished for dishonoring those in attendance who do not share his religious views.  People whos freedom of attending a secular ceremony was purposefully denied.

This is what I call secondhand religion.  It is not a singular act of supplication to a god but is an act of endorsing a singular religion to a mass of people.  In many cases a captive audience.  I have been in this uncomfortable position before many times and have promised myself not to be again.

I applaud the Freedom form Religion Foundation for standing up to the School District and many other injustices they have pursued.

Christians honor veterans even though their book says they will be going to hell.

I love days like today.  Today is Memorial Day.  A day where we honor Veterans who fought for our country and kept it safe.  Believe me, my father fought in Korea.  I appreciate the sacrifice these brave men did for our country.  The thing that astounds me is that there will be ministers at these ceremonies.  They will also say kind words for these men who fought and killed to preserve our way of life.
God did not say killing was Ok sometimes.  In his big 10 laws he simply said, "Thou shalt not kill."  Period!  On a funny side note; in the bible God then immediately sends the Israelites out to kill a bunch of people.
I hate to say it but the Westboro Baptist Church has this right.  Christians damn their souls when they join the military.  Maybe that's why Army chaplains don't carry weapons.  They just say fancy speeches and receive a paycheck for actually doing little to nothing.
Getting back to the point.  Today I would like all of you who go to one of these events to look around you.  Notice your Christian neighbors as they stand in attendance in these events and then wonder why Christianity is king of the United States.  It's because of ignorance.  These people have no clue as to what to believe because the book one of the worst written books ever printed.  When and if they go to church they are taught by an equally ignorant person.
Yesterday (Sunday) my father was honored in church by the minister himself.  They had all veterans stand during the service.  They did this in that very same building that has the ten commandments on the wall.  It's almost like they don't care about what their god wants.
Maybe thats the point here.  We have become a society that only cares about our own self satisfaction.  If god gets in our way we'll just change him to fit what we want.  Reading his book is hard and inconvenient so I'll just make it up as I go.  To read more about the bible and what it says check out my other blog.  Whatdayathing-huh

Just remember kids.  Most of us don't pick our religions.  They just follow the one mom and dad followed.  That's why coming out as an atheist is almost worse than coming out as gay.

Mistranslations in the bible

If bible scholars and theologens understand that a lot of things were misinterpreted in the initial translation of the bible why don't they fix the incorrect text?  Doesn't it make sense to use what the writers of the bible intended?  What if these mistranslations are resulting in people not going to heaven?  Why do ministers preach things that they know are wrong.  One of the biggies is the idea of Mary being a virgin...  It was a mistranslation.  There was no virgin birth...  Jesus was fertilized just like you and me.

God kills people during natural disasters

I love how people react when they survive a life threatening situation.  Most of them, at least in America, thank god for sparing them.  What about the people god killed.  Yes, I mean killed.  If there was a god it was him that created the disaster in the first place.  He spared one life while killing another.   What makes you more valuable than the poor person who died.  I've heard survivors say that god still had work for them to do.  Then they go on with their boring life not doing anything to accomplish this deity ordered task.  Give me a break.  You just got lucky!!!

Mary was an unfit mother...

If a woman today has her kid run out and get wine for a party she would be considered an unfit mother.  But if it's Mary and she has Jesus create wine for a party is't a much revered and loved story...  What the!!!
